This is a highly coveted job that will surely attract many eligible suitors.

Who Replaces Sam Pittman at Arkansas?
While Pittman’s background prior to taking over at Arkansas in 2020 was mostly as an offensive line coach, with zero FBS head coaching experience prior to taking over for Chad Morris, that doesn’t appear to be the case this go-round for the Hogs.
That’s because a trio of current FBS coaches (and one recently fired coach) are currently our odds-on leaders to replace Pittman at Arkansas, with current SMU Mustangs coach Rhett Lashlee (+475) leading the way, followed by Alex Golesh of USF (+550) and North Texas’ Eric Morris (+700).
Throw in recently fired Penn State coach James Franklin at +800 and another pair of American coaches (Ryan Silverfield of Memphis at +1100 and Tulane’s Jon Sumrall at +1500) and you have the upper end of the Razorbacks odds board covered.

Who Else Could Get The Nod?
Outsiders that could potentially replace Pittman include longtime Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck, who checks in at +2000 alongside another American head coach, in Jeff Traylor of UTSA.
Longshots to keep in mind when it comes to the Arkansas opening include Jerry Mack of Kennesaw State and Texas State head coach GJ Kinne (+2500 each), while former Florida/Mississippi State and current UNLV coach Dan Mullen rounds out the list, at +3000.

How Likely Are Arkansas’ Top Candidates?
One complicating issue for Arkansas boosters in landing Lashlee out of SMU is the recent two-year contract extension that would make him “one of the top-10 highest-paid coaches in the nation,” per The Athletic.
In 2025, Pittman earned $6.8 million for the Razorbacks, ranking 13th out of 16 leaders in the expanded SEC universe, while Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss is currently the 10th highest-paid coach in the sport, earning $9 million to coach the Rebels this year.
If Arkansas is going to outdo SMU and land Lashlee, they’ll have to open the proverbial coffers to do so, which could make names like Golesh ($2.5 million annually at USF), Morris ($950,000 annually at North Texas) and Silverfield ($2.25 million in 2025 at Memphis) more realistic options for the Razorbacks in 2025.
The issue for some in Fayetteville is that the last time Arkansas dipped into the American (landing Morris from SMU) it was an abject disaster for all involved, with the Razorbacks going 4-18 in 2018 and 2019 before the school pulled the plug and fired the rising star.
For now, it seems like a return to the American dipping pool might be the best option for Razorbacks backers this offseason, especially with SEC rivals Auburn, Florida and LSU all lining up to land new coaches this offseason.
