It also means there are several enticing sites to consider for the weekly ESPN College GameDay Saturday morning show. However, for Week 8, one game really stands out.

Looking at the show’s archives, it’s clear that GameDay has a soft spot for Athens, Georgia, with the home of the state’s flagship university hosting the fifth most episodes (41, alongside Michigan) all time, one behind Oklahoma and two behind UGA’s rival from Gainesville.
Come Week 8, we’re expecting Georgia to get that 42nd trip from the GameDay gang, giving that week’s Georgia-Ole Miss contest +120 odds of hosting ESPN’s pregame show on Oct. 18, ranking well ahead of the next closest contender, that being Arizona State vs. Texas Tech in Tempe, at +425.
Looking back, UGA last hosted GameDay on Nov. 16, 2024, when the Bulldogs rolled over seventh ranked Tennessee, 31-17, while the show was in Atlanta when Kirby Smart’s crew knocked off Texas in the SEC championship game, 22-19 in overtime.
GameDay has gone to Tempe three times between 1995 and 2005, though the first two appearances in 1995 and 2002 were for the Fiesta Bowl championship games between No. 1 Nebraska and second ranked Florida (in 1995) and Miami vs. Ohio State (in 2002), with the lone trip for an ASU game being in 2005, when 14th ranked ASU played No. 1 USC, with the Trojans winning that contest, 38-28.
Where Else Could GameDay Land?
Outside of Athens and Tempe, keep an eye on spots like Nashville, Provo and Denton, as 20th ranked Vanderbilt hosts No. 11 LSU (+550), while the return of The Holy War between No. 18 BYU and unranked Utah is next in line to host GameDay, odds wise, at +700.
The final potential host is North Texas, with the Mean Green sitting at 5-0 with wins over Lamar, Western Michigan, Washington State, Army and South Alabama, with a showdown against 24th ranked USF awaiting them in Denton this weekend.
Should the Mean Green stay unbeaten by knocking off the Bulls, there’s a real shot the American member could host GameDay for the first time come Oct. 18, with a 6-0 North Texas squad hosting a Roadrunners team that’ll either be 3-3 or 2-4 by the time Week 8 comes around, depending on how they fare against Rice at home this weekend.
Looking back, GameDay has gone to Provo once, doing so in 2009 when the16th ranked Cougars lost, 38-7, to No. 7 TCU, while ESPN’s pregame show has been in attendance for one Utah-BYU rivalry game, doing so in 2004, when the sixth ranked Utes shellacked the unranked Cougars at Rice-Eccles Stadium, 52-21.
GameDay has gone to Vanderbilt once all time, doing so on Oct. 4, 2008, when the 19th ranked Commodores beat No. 13 Auburn, 14-13, with Vandy looking to pull off a similar feat when Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers come to the Music City in Week 8.
